Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use share at share.wbydc.app or share.wbydc.ru. share lets two people send files directly between their browsers. It has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts.

Who runs share

share is run by wbydc, a private individual (the "operator", "we"). Contact: [email protected].

What we never see

• Your files. They go from one browser to the other, encrypted in the browser before they leave it. When a connection goes through our relay server, the relay only passes encrypted data along.
• File names and sizes.
• The secret part of an invite link (the part after #). Browsers do not send it to any server. Without it the encrypted data cannot be read.

What our servers process, and for how long

• Rooms. To connect two people, the server keeps a room in memory: a random room ID and the two open connections. It passes encrypted connection messages between the two browsers and cannot read them. A room is deleted when either person leaves, or when someone stays away longer than the room's keep-alive (at most 30 minutes). Rooms are never written to disk and are lost on restart.
• Your IP address. Like any website, the server sees the IP address of your connection while it is open. The share application does not log or store it.
• Usage counters. The server counts events such as rooms created and bytes relayed. These counters contain no room IDs, IP addresses or anything that identifies a person or a room. They are kept for one month.
• Relay server (turn.wbydc.app). When a direct connection between the two browsers is not possible, or when you or the room creator choose to always use the relay, the connection goes through our relay server. It sees the IP addresses of both sides and the amount of encrypted data, but not the content. It does not write logs. To stop abuse, it keeps short-lived counters per IP address in memory only.
• Infrastructure. The servers run in a hosting cluster operated by wbydc. Its network components (such as the reverse proxy) may record technical request data, such as IP address, time and the requested address, as part of normal operation and security. We do not use such data to identify you and do not combine it with anything else.

Cloudflare (share.wbydc.app only)

Requests to share.wbydc.app pass through Cloudflare, Inc., which provides network and security services. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request metadata under its own privacy policy and data processing terms, and may do so outside your country, including in the United States. share.wbydc.ru does not use Cloudflare.

What the other person and other servers see

• In a direct connection, the other person's browser learns your IP address. To hide it, turn on "Always use TURN" in Settings; then the connection goes through a relay server.
• If you or the other person set up your own relay (TURN) server, or use the one the room creator shares, that server sees your IP address. Its operator, not us, is responsible for it.

Stored in your browser

Your settings (including an own relay server's address and login, if you enter one), language, theme, Fun mode and notification choice are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They are never sent to our server. You can delete them by clearing this site's data in your browser. If you turn on notifications, your device shows notifications with file names; they stay on your device.

Your rights

We hold almost nothing that is linked to you, and rooms disappear by themselves. You can still ask us what data about you we process, ask us to delete it, or object to its processing by writing to [email protected]. We will answer within 10 working days.

For users in the EU and EEA (GDPR)

• Controller: wbydc, [email protected].
• Legal basis: providing the service you ask for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) for rooms and relaying, and our legitimate interest in running the service securely and preventing abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) for IP-based abuse limits and technical data.
• You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, and the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority.
• Cloudflare acts as a processor for share.wbydc.app and may transfer data outside the EU under its data processing terms.
• We do not sell data, do not profile you and make no automated decisions about you.

For users in Russia (Federal Law No. 152-FZ "On Personal Data")

• Operator: wbydc, [email protected].
• Personal data processed: the IP address of your connection.
• Purposes: connecting the two participants of a room and protecting the service from abuse.
• Actions: collection and temporary storage in memory during the connection, followed by deletion. No transfer to third parties, except Cloudflare for share.wbydc.app as described above.
• By using share you agree to this processing. You can withdraw your consent by no longer using the service, and you can ask for information about the processing or for deletion at [email protected].

Changes

When the way share handles data changes, we update this policy and its effective date.
